The BoatUS Towing Program provides nationwide water and roadside assistance to active BoatUS Members. The program represents a promise to Members from BoatUS, The Association, to provide excellent assistance and services (24-hour dispatch, on water towing, on road towing, battery jumps, fuel deliveries, and soft ungroundings) without charge up to a Member's specified service level.
In the event of a breakdown at your home dock or mooring, a Member with the Unlimited Towing Membership BoatUS will pay 50% of the cost to tow your boat to a repair facility or boat ramp. The Member will be required to provide payment for the other 50%. A member with the Unlimited Gold Towing Membership would not pay anything for a tow from their home dock or mooring. BoatUS would provide 100% of the cost to tow your disabled boat up to 25 miles to a repair facility or boat ramp. The BoatUS Towing Program does not provide for on water tows from a home dock or mooring in the first 30 days.
The $72 Unlimited Freshwater Towing Membership only applies to Members who boat solely on inland lakes and rivers (except in Florida) nationwide. If you do any boating in Saltwater, or boat in Florida, you will need to select the Unlimited Saltwater Towing Membership ($158) or Unlimited Gold Towing Membership ($189) option.
Yes. BoatUS Towing Service follows you on any boat you own, borrow, or charter nationwide. No matter where your homeport is or where you keep your boat. If you’re within a TowBoatUS or VESSEL ASSIST service area, BoatUS will provide towing service up to your selected Membership Towing level. If you are boating in an area that is not supported by a TowBoatUS or VESSEL ASSIST Service Provider, BoatUS will reimburse you up to your Membership Towing level: $2,500 for Unlimited, $3,000 for Unlimited Gold and $5,000 for Commercial Towing, when authorized by the BoatUS 24-hour Dispatch Center.

BoatUS establishes Towing-Ungrounding as "any operation not involving immediate peril to the boat or to a legally protected marine environment and requiring only one towing vessel with lines attached to the grounded boat to refloat it or to the disabled boat to tow it." Salvage, on the other hand, includes “any operation involving immediate peril to the boat, the marine environment or the use of special salvage equipment (pumps, airbags, dredging equipment, cranes, etc.)." BoatUS Towing Services do not provide for salvage operations such as a sinking or hard grounding. Salvage operations, including towing from the salvage site, would be paid for by a yacht or boat insurance policy, such as BoatUS Marine Insurance. Yes. A friend or family member using your boat would assisted and the bill would be paid for up to your Membership Towing level. The towboat captain would need to verify that you are the owner of the vessel and that your Membership and towing level are current. If you are on a friends boat and the owner of the boat is present, regardless of who is at the helm, the owner would be responsible for having the appropriate towing service, not the guest Member on board.
